NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 13 – The British High Commission in Nairobi has announced that visa applications will now only be made online.
In a statement, the mission announced that the changes would become effective on June 15 and that visa appointments would have to be booked at the time of making the online application.
Applicants will need to log on to http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk to access and complete the application forms.
“The British High Commission in Nairobi, in conjunction with the UK Border Agency, wishes to announce that with effect from 15th June 2011 the method of applying for a visa will change,” read the statement in part.
“The Visa Application Centre (VAC), Nairobi, will only accept applications from those who have applied online,” it said.
Applicants will be guided through an online step-by-step application process that will ensure all relevant parts of the application form are completed before it can be submitted.
The applicants will then print their completed application form and submit it to the Visa Application Centre along with their supporting documents, passport photographs, visa application fee and biometrics.
The High Commission also noted that online visa applications had been optional in the country since 2008 although the system was already in use in other countries.
“This change is an extension of this (online) system. The UK’s online application is being extended globally,” added the statement.
The online system allows applicants to complete their application and make an appointment from the comfort of their home, office or an internet café.
