Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto seek Asylum in the Netherlands

Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, two of the six Kenyans scheduled to appear at the Hague have declared their intentions to remain in the Netherlands and seek asylum to avoid prosecution should Kenya form a local tribunal.

Earlier reports indicated that they had intended to fly to the UK after the mention of their case but the visa restriction imposed by the Dutch Embassy made it impossible.

The astonishing developments come in the heels of reports that the Ocampo 6 were denied the Schengen visa which is a visa issued by a number of European Union countries, which allows a visitor access to other countries.

The Dutch Embassy issued them with a special visa which only allows them to remain in the Hague with the coordination between the Dutch Government and the Hague.

In a statement to reporters who have been tailing the Ocampo 6, Kenyatta and Ruto insisted that they were not quiting on their supporters but are rather shielding themselves from judicial proceedings where the odds will be “heavily stacked” upon them.
