The Kenya Railways Police have arrested a suspect following an incident that took place Thursday morning where unidentified person riding on top of the Nairobi-bound Ruiru train poured acid on commuters through the ventilation.
According to a statement from Rift Valley Railways (RVR), the suspect, whose identity remains confidential, is helping the police with their investigation into the incident, which happened between Mutindwa and Makadara leaving six people, five male and one female, slightly burnt on their hands and heads.
The casualties were taken to Kenyatta National Hospital by the Railways Police.
“RVR is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its passengers and is therefore working in close collaboration with the authorities in this investigation as the company continues to improve its commuter services in Nairobi and the peri-urban area.”
Rift Valley Railways (RVR) is the Kenya-Uganda concessionaire operating freight and passenger rail services in Kenya and Uganda on an exclusive basis.
The company was founded in 2006 and has been granted a 25 year mandate to operate railway services on 2,000 kilometers of track linking the Indian Ocean port of Mombasa in Kenya with the interiors of both Kenya and Uganda, including Kampala.
