The Plan
The Truthsayer Talk Show– the premier online Kenyan political talk show is partnering with Tuko Pamoja Initiative and Hope and Mercy International to provide some help to some of the needy children in Kibera, Nairobi. Kibera is the second largest slum in the world, covering an area of 2.5 sq. Km and home to over 1 million people.
Houses are sheds with corrugated iron roofs, roads are tracks strewn with litter, sanitation is non-existent and raw sewage spills over the pathways. The stench is overpowering and disease is rife. Some 20% of children die before their fifth birthday and close to 60% of people living in the Kibera have HIV/AIDS. Few have jobs. Lives are short and high in misery, yet many people retain a sense of dignity and a desire to make something of their lives.
Solomon, one of the 3 hosts of the Truthsayer Talk Show will be participating in the White Rock Marathon taking place on December 13, 2009 in Dallas, TX. Our vision is to raise $200 for every mile he runs-for a total of $5,200 for the 26 mile race. This money will go towards assisting the children at 3 selected children’s homes in Nairobi: New Life Home Trust (works with children from Kibera), Tender Feet Education Center (in Kibera) and Mama Tunza Children’s Center (also in Kibera).
Who Needs Your Help?
New Life Home Trust was founded in 1994 in response to the plight of abandoned and orphaned babies, particularly those born HIV positive. As the program progressed, a unique phenomenon was experienced – 75% to 90% of the HIV positive babies admitted became HIV negative after a few months of care.
The Tenderfeet Education Center is a school for orphans and other vulnerable children of pre-school through second grade age in Nairobi, Kenya that provides a warm learning environment for extremely needy children. Almost all of these children are orphans, have lost a parent or parents to AIDS, or have been abandoned. The school also provides two meals a day for the kids — which for some may be their only chance to eat all day.
Mama Tunza’s Children’s Centre is a school and orphanage situated in Kibera .With 230 children in her care Mama Tunza, works hard in the difficult task that is meeting the basic needs of the children in her care in this slum.
How Can You Help?
Just a little goes a long way in Kenya. There are several ways we could use your assistance:
Buy a band. For every wrist band we are asking for a $5 donation to assist these needy children
Sponsor a mile- Help ManSolo complete the White Rock Marathon by donating $200 a mile
With $16.00, dinner for two in the United States, we can buy 3 gallons of cooking oil and $20.00 will pay for 2 bales of Maize flour.
$30.00 will buy 3 sacks of charcoal fuel.
$120 will pay the rent for the building at Tender Feet Center.
We all want a chance to make a difference and know that our donations count. By partnering with the Truthsayer Talk Show, your donations will help assure the children of Kibera get the care and education that is essential for their future.
To donate, please visit our website www.truthsayertalkshow.com. All donations are tax deductible. 100% of your donation goes towards helping these children as we do not take any administrative costs. You can also track your donation through our website and see how it is spent.
