Police arrest fake Kenyan doctors

Two quacks have been arrested for attempting to inject a HIV negative child with Anti Retroviral drugs (ARVs).

The two identified as Fred Wafula alias Nabii (21) and Raphael Wamalwa (42) were arrested by administration police officers in Teso district as they attempted to give the jab to the child.

The two had allegedly claimed to be professional doctors who could cure any ailment using a ‘wonder drug’.

The District AP boss, James Wekesa said the two had convinced a family that they could cure their nine-month-old daughter who was suffering from vomiting and diarrhea.

Wekesa said area residents, however, became suspicious and alerted the assistant chief, Andrew Etyang who in turn dispatched the AP officers from the Kocholia camp to apprehend the quacks.

Donned in a red flowing gown, Wafula, a self proclaimed prophet was found red-handed attempting to treat the child using the ARV drugs.

The two were arrested and taken to the DC’s offices in Amagoro where they were held briefly before being transferred to Malaba police station.

Nabii said he was a preacher with Jerusalem Church Miyanga in Bumula and confessed that he obtained the drugs and syringes that he was using to administer the injection from his sister.

Area deputy public health officer, George Okisai confirmed the drugs as ARVs meant for HIV positive children noting that they are not found in the district hospital but are only available from a few NGOs involved in HIV/AIDS projects.

Residents claimed the two quacks have been moving around fleecing people of their money after claiming that they were specialists in curing all diseases for which they charged at least Ksh1, 500 per person.
