International Criminal Court prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo now wants Head of Public Service Francis Muthaura and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister or Finance Uhuru Kenyatta relieved off their duties arguing that their continued stay in the top offices might interfere with the ICC process.
Fielding questions from journalists in a video broadcast, Ocampo said the two are likely to compromise the process since Muthaura was the chairman of the national security committee while Kenyatta is a member of the Witness Protection Committee.
Muthaura and Kenyatta are among the six major suspects summoned to appear before the ICC court in connection with crimes against humanity during the 2008 post election violence.
The others are former cabinet ministers William Ruto and Henry Kosgey, the Post-Master General, Major General Hussein Ali and journalist Joshua Arap Sang.
The six have all confirmed that they would honour the summonses and present themselves before the court next month.
Ocampo said he would write to the Kenyan government this week expressing his concerns regarding Muthaura and Kenyatta.
He clarified that it was the prerogative of the government to send the two packing but expressed confidence that the government will honor its pledge to cooperate with ICC.
At the same time, Ocampo said Kenya has a right to seek the support of the United Nations Security Council in its quest to have the ICC cases deferred.
However, the prosecutor exuded confidence that the cases against the six would be confirmed.
