Obama’s aunt furious at Donald Trump for “disrespecting” her family

By ANTONY KARANJA in DALLAS, TX Zeituni Onyango, President Obama’s aunt, is hitting back at Donald Trump after the billionaire real estate developer questioned the US President’s birthplace. Mr Trump stirred controversy a couple of weeks ago after he said he did not believe that President Obama was born in the US and quoting the President’s 88 year old grandmother, Mama Sarah Obama. “His grandmother in Kenya said he was born in Kenya and she was there and witnessed the birth,” said Trump. “Three weeks ago when I started, I thought he was probably born in this country and now I really have a much bigger doubt.” “A naked lie in the name of the Lord.” Onyango told Boston’s WHDH-TV. “He is lying. Onyango said that Trump’s accusation are bringing ridicule to the family back in Kenya and described the mogul’s words as degrading and hurtful. “When you are doing politics you should leave the family aside,” said Zeituni. Onyango went ahead to describe a letter from Hawaii that she says was sent by her brother, Barack Obama Snr in 1961 announcing Obama’s birth. “My brother was telling my mother how happy he was he had another baby boy on the other side,” said Onyango. The 58 year old Onyango was granted asylum in the US in May last year after a Boston judge ruled that she would be persecuted if she was deported back to Kenya. Last September, she made headlines after she told a Boston TV station that she believed that as an immigrant, the US had an obligation to make her a citizen. The President’s aunt had strong words for Trump who has said that he has people in Hawaii checking President Obama’s records. “I respect his wealth, but I only demand him to respect us,” said Onyango. She also challenged Trump to call and have a conversation with her on this issue. “And I challenge him. Let him call me and we’ll talk,” said Onyango. “Let him come and ask me.” Trump’s claims are in line with a group known as the “birthers.” The group argues that the certificate of live birth that President Obama has made available is a fake, and that Mr. Obama is not the “natural born citizen” he claims to be. Mr. Obama, many birthers say, was actually born in Kenya. Separately, President Obama’s sister, Maya Soetero-Ng also weighed in terming the birther movement as “unfortunate.”

Soetero-Ng said that the President was born in Hawaii and there is enough proof.

“I think that it is time for people to put that to bed, put it to rest completely.” She told CNN’S Piers Morgan in an interview which aired on Tuesday night

Saetoro-Ng also responded to Trump’s repeated calls for President Obama to produce his birth certificate. “Well, I think it’s a shame and I think that my brother should definitely be president for a second term,” Soetero-Ng said. “And that’s really all I have to say about it.” Over the weekend, the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee, Sarah Palin praised Trump for “getting into the bottom of “ President Obama’s citizenship status. Palin and Trump are both considering a presidential run on the Republican party ticket in the November 2012 polls. A top Obama advisor over the weekend laughed off Trump as a serious presidential candidate to which Trump shot back saying he is the Obama’s campaign’s worst nightmare.
