A man hacked his former girlfriend to death before he committed suicide in Mukurweini District.
Moses Kamama, 37, used a panga to end the life of his former girlfriend and soon after killed himself in the Wednesday night at Karaba village.
The two had known each other since childhood and attended the same primary school, according to Nyeri police boss Kirunya Limbitu.
However, their union turned sour a year ago, leading to their separation. The couple had an eight-year-old daughter.
Mr Limbitu said the man hanged himself with a head scarf.
He said a panga believed to have been used in the killing was later found in the man’s house where he had lured his ex-girlfriend.
Police said the man met the woman as she walked to the market and lured her into his house where he committed the crime.
In another case, a mourner stabbed another to death over the choice of music to be played during a night vigil in a Nakuru estate.
Area police boss Daniel Kimeu said the middle-aged man was stabbed in the chest after a heated argument.
The body was taken to the Nakuru Municipal Mortuary.
Mr Kimeu said nobody had been arrested in connection with the Thursday night incident.
Swept away
Elsewhere, two women drowned last night in Laare Division of Igembe North District.
They were swept away by flood following a downpour.
The victims, 37-year-old Lucy Mwathimba and 19-year-old Fridah Mukami, died in separate incidents between 7.30 and 8.00pm. The rains pounded the area for more than four hours.
