Residents of Koulu village in Kisumu North District on Sunday woke up to a bizarre sight of a coffin with the remains of a month-old baby dumped on its grandparents’ doorstep.
The mother, Ms Lavender Achieng’, said she had received a call from her husband — Mr Walter Odhiambo — at 2am, telling her to collect the exhumed body at her father’s doorstep before dogs devoured it.
The baby girl’s body had been buried two weeks ago.
Mr Odhiambo confirmed to the Nation by telephone that he exhumed his daughter’s body and took it to his in-laws’ home after learning that his wife of six years planned to abandon him.
“I was angered when I called my wife and she confirmed she was on her way to Kakamega,” he said.
But the 23-year-old woman insisted she had been sent away by her husband.
The baby died at Chulaimbo Hospital last month and was buried at the father’s home in Kadimo village, Bondo District.
