Dubai: A Kenyan woman faces ten years in jail and a fine of Dh100,000 for transporting one kilogram of drugs which she hid in her private parts.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 32-year-old Kenyan woman, L.W., of transporting crystals of methamphetamine although she claimed that she didn’t know that it was a banned substance.

“I did not know what substance I carried. Someone gave it to me and asked me to deliver it to another person. I am not guilty,” L.W. argued when she defended herself before Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir Fahmi.

Deportation

“The accused will be deported after the completion of her punishment,” said Presiding Judge Fahmi upon pronouncing yesterday’s judgment.

An Emirati first corporal at Dubai Police testified: “I was on duty at the transit terminal at Dubai International Airport. I spotted the defendant walking suspiciously. When I asked her for her passport, she seemed confused and scared. I asked my colleague, a policewoman, to search her. L.W. took out from her vagina a capsule in which she hid some drug crystals. She claimed that she carried some crystals in her intestines.”

Police seized a plastic pouch that contained drugs hidden in her handbag.
