Jambonewspot marks one year anniversary

One of Jambonewspot website very first looks in April 2009

By Antony Karanja

Days have gone by, weeks have come and gone and this week, Jambonewspot celebrates its one year anniversary.  The year has seen its challenges and successes but Jambonewspot has continued to wade through and has grown tremendously reaching thousands of readers across the world.

The editor’s idea of a far flung news aggregation website for Kenyans was born a couple years ago but it was not until one Saturday morning in one of the halls of Neema Church during a meeting for young professionals did the idea truly take hold. This week a year ago, it was unimaginable that we would have readership spread as far wide as Australia and New Zealand. It has been humbling to see readers regularly log in from the exotic island of St. Kitts and Nevis as well as Bermuda. We continue to draw our largest bloc of readers from the US, Canada, India and various European countries notably UK, France and Germany and over the last couple of months, Africa is creeping its way up. South African and Kenyan readership has been increasing rapidly notably from Nairobi and Mombasa areas.

We cannot fail to mention a few instances where we have had readers from Kisumu, Kakamega and Nakuru. Special shout out to readers who have recently been reading from Malawi and Botswana. We are proud to be a source of information for Kenyan natives who are men and women in uniform serving in the US Marines and the US Army. We are honored that you have taken the time to visit our site as you serve in various bases around the world. We have also grown rapidly in rankings as the year went by. At the end of April 2009, Alexa a website ranking company ranked “Jambonewspot” at position 14,917,000 and one year later, we are ranked at position 652,906. In the month of May 2009 which was our first complete month, we had 8,239 pageviews. In the month of March 2010, we recorded 76,093 pageviews on both the main Jambonewspot and HabariZaNyumbani sub-page.

In September, 2009, Word press recognized “jambonewspot.wordpress.com” (now HabarizaNyumbani.jambonewspot.com) which is a sub-page of jambonewspot.com as one of the top 100 fastest growing wordpress hosted blogs (at #91). Jambonewspot recorded its highest visitor total in a single day on December 7th, 2009 when it received 6,098 visits. The growth of Jambonewspot has been fueled largely by the website visitors and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for taking time to visit Jambonewspot. We recognize that you have many other options but you have chosen to have us as a regular stopover. Without all of you, this would not have been possible and my great appreciation goes to you. Thank you to all of you who have contacted Jambonewspot with news items and sent in stories that you would like us to follow or those you thought would be of interest to our readers. We also thank our advertisers who have given us their business and trusted us over the years to help them reach their audience targets. Thank you for your support and it is our hope that we will continue to meet your needs. We would also like to thank all the media houses in the Diaspora that we have worked closely with or in any capacity over in the last year and from whom we have learnt a thing or two. Special thanks go to Misterseed.com (UK), Diaspora Messenger (Maryland,US), The Truthsayer Talk show (Dallas,US), East Africa in Focus (US), Public Eye Site (New Jersey, US), Kim Media Group (Atlanta, US), Kenya London News (London-UK), Mwakilishi (US), Ajabu Africa (Massachusetts, US), Gusii.com (Atlanta, US) and others that we may not have mentioned.
