PM Raila Odinga
ABIDJAN, Jan 19 – Ivorian strongman Laurent Gbagbo’s foreign minister said Wednesday that Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga was no longer wanted as a mediator in Ivory Coast’s leadership crisis since he failed in his latest bid to resolve the impasse.
“Mr Odinga failed in his mission and we are no longer prepared to receive him here in Ivory Coast. We reject Mr Odinga”, Alcide Djedje told a press conference, hours after Odinga left Abidjan.
Odinga “sides with Mr Ouattara. We think he has become an actor in the Ivorian crisis and can no longer be an African Union special envoy,” he added.
The Kenyan prime minister said he had failed to achieve a breakthrough in the political crisis and that time was running out for a negotiated resolution.
