Eric Wainaina’s charity concert in US raises Sh85m .

On May 10, over 1,200 people converged at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, USA, to celebrate the 1,000 communities and over 600,000 people in Africa that now have safe water.

The Well: Done Celebration concert was held in honour of the successful completion of the 1,000 Wells Project. The event raised over $100,000 (Sh85 million). Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam who attended the event lauded the initiative. Kenyan Afro-fusion act Eric Wainaina was among the special surprise guests that were performing at the concert organised by American gospel group Jars of Clay.

Accompanied by the Mapinduzi Band and backed by Atemi Ayungi, Eric performed popular singles like Twende Twende and Sawa Sawa. Other performers included Brandon Heath, Christopher Williams and Matthew Perryman Jones, HANSON, Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken and host Charlie Peacock.

The Blood: Water Mission is an organisation that began as the vision of the Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay to provide safe water for various African communities.
